Osheaga Music Festival
Hello Friends!!! I hope you are all FAB!!
So I basically just had oNE OF THE BEST WEEKENDS OF MY
ENTIRE SUMMER!!!! Which can be
explanatory of why I have been absent from blogging for the last week
(especially due to the fact I was laptopless which was VERY HARD TO BE.)
This weekend I travelled to the beautiful Quebec with a
friend of mine from uni and 2 of her friends to go to the Oshega Arts &
Music Festival in Montreal! It was such an incredible experience being so far
away from home, going somewhere new, being immersed in their culture and trying
all their absolutely incredible food! This was also the first time I have ever
been anywhere where I was legal to buy alcohol which was soooooo weird? BUT
THAT’S NOT WHAT I WANTED TO DEDICATE THIS POST TO
I basically wanted to make this post to talk about how this
festival made me feel so incredible just to be there! I had so many moments of
feeling young and reckless in the best way possible. I felt so free and ALIVE
and so connected with all the strangers around me who where feeling the exact
same way. You know those moments when you feel so overflowing with emotions and
effortlessly happy? Those moments when you look around you and believe the
world and life is truly a beautiful thing? And anything you have ever worried
about or been worrying about you just know will work out and be okay? Rare
moments like this stick with you for the rest of your life.
I want to share 3 of those moments with you.
1.
George Ezra singing Barcelona
This is first of all my FAVOURITE song of his. He explained
how he wrote this song about his solo European travels and things he felt along
the way. First of all the song just seems to have effortless happiness strung
along into the lyrics with calming, happy music to go along with it. During
this song a large majority of the crowd knew the lyrics so everyone softly sang
together under the hot sun, people climbed on the shoulders and swayed to the
music and just near the end one of the security workers got out a massive hose
and let water rain all over the crowd. Everyone had their arms up reaching for
the water in the heat and everyone including myself was smiling and laughing at
this surprise. They showed parts of the crowd all over on a big screen at the
front and I saw the same feelings of bliss on the faces of people all around
me. I couldn’t help but smile this entire song.
2.
Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros singing
Home & another song I did not know the same of OOPS.
To start off, the lead singer Alex was simply amazing at
getting the crowd involved at concerts. During their opening song instead of
singing their verses they let people in the front row take the microphone and
sing their own verses to the tune, one obviously drunk boy was so bubbly and
sang a hilarious verse that included the line “This is the best day of my
mother fucking life!!!” However, the moment that really stuck out to me was
when Alex picked a young boy out of the crowd who had a physical disability
& was in a wheel chair. He and the crowed worked together to get the boy
& his wheel chair to the front and onto the stage by basically getting the
entire crowd to crowd-surf him there. While this happened the crowd who was not
helping in the effort was cheering on everyone working so hard to get him
there. Once he was there he sang a song to him and got the crowd to sing Home
to him. A friend of his who had come onstage with him today his story and the
entire crowd cheered and whistled and sang for the boy with such an inspiring
story. Everyone was so caring and supportive of a boy they didn’t even know and
seeing that kind of bravery in the boy and supportiveness in the crowd and band
made me see some good in a world so full of negativity. I really learned
something during that performance.
3.
Florence and The Machine singing Dog Days Are Over
This song was the last song of Florence’s breathtaking
performance, it was also the last song of the night. Everyone was in a insane
mood and you could practically feel the energy in the crowd. As the last chorus
approached Florence told everyone to take off an article of clothing and wave
it in the air during the chorus and jump up and down. We did exactly that. As
the song built up and the lyrics about
being free were by sang by everyone in the audience, I felt the adrenaline and
as if my spirit were free. As the final few lines were being sang an incredible
thing happened, it began to rain. It was almost like a movie. Everyone was so
hot and sweaty and excited and partially naked and it just rained and everyone
just freaked out!!!!!! This had to be my favourite moment and I can’t even
begin to explain why! I am just so SO thankful I was there to experience it!
So basically this weekend was me bubbling up with emotions
that made me feel the best I have felt in such a long time. I would absolutely
love go again next year despite the large expense because it is worth every
penny.
Have any of you every had experiences like these? TELL ME IN
THE COMMENTS PLEASE!
