You Can Tell A lot About A Person By What Their Favourite F.R.I.E.N.D.S Episode Is!!!!!!

You can tell a lot about someone by their favourite f.r.i.e.n.d.s episode. That sounds cliché and kinda silly to say but in my mind it actually makes a lot of sense.

It’s like asking someone about their favourite song, and no not their favourite song on mainstream radio currently but the song they go to when they feel like they really need a pick me up, or one that can manage to bring tears to their eyes if they listen to it at the right moment. The song that even when they’re completely grown the sound of that song and its lyrics bring them back to a specific moment in time when they felt that song really touched them.

I feel like you can relate that to a f.r.i.e.n.d.s episode too. For each person theres usually a story behind why that episode touched them in a way no other episode did. Whether it taught them something useful, brought comfort to them through comedy on a particularly bad day or was just watching during a significant time in their life. There’s a reason a person has that particular episode labeled as a significant one in their mind, and finding out why can be the most interesting thing in the world.

My favourite episode is actually the very first episode I ever watched. Season 4 episode 12; The One With The Embryos.

IT SOUNDS REALLY ODD SAYING THAT MY FAVOURITE EPISODE INVOLVES IMPLANTING EMBRYOS INTO PHEOBES UTERUS BUT HEAR ME OUT.

For me this episode stands out more for the setting I watched it in and the events that followed.

I was in sophomore year, I was 14 years old and it was my first ever experience at a party with alcohol. I was at my friend Maddie’s house, her parents were away for the weekend and her older brother and all his senior friends threw a party which I felt all “mature” for attending (Jesus Christ….)

It’s almost needless to say that I got drunk, in fact way too drunk and I was sick and ready to throw up all over Maddie’s hardwood floors. I was at a party, nobodies parent’s knew we were there, everyone was drunk and running around Maddie’s backyard forest and I was experiencing some weird sensation I had never felt before; all I knew was that I was nervous and I didn’t like it one bit.
Her brother and his friends went out to go steal Christmas decorations from their innocent neighbours lawns (I can’t explain why boys can be stupid sometimes.) I laid down on the couch and sat there completely in a daze while Maddie brought me a bag of potato chips and water to fill my stomach. She told me to just lay down for a bit and try to sober up, she turned on the TV for me and clicked on the channel for f.r.i.e.n.d.s.

I watched as Rachel and Monica vs. Chandler and Joey battled out their bets over Ross’ makeshift game show in their living room and after all that, I felt significantly better.

Mind you, a couple hours later I did throw up in Maddie’s bathroom but in that moment the scared little girl who had never experienced drunkenness before didn’t feel as powerless and sick as before. I felt as if I was snuggled up in bed on a sick day from school and I was watching tv to pass the day, which was exactly what I needed in such as scary moment of my teenage years.

And that my friends is why “The One With The Embryos”  is my favourite friends episode. I often go back to watch that specific episode when I’m feeling stressed out of sad because I’m still able to get that feeling of comfort I had almost 5 years ago when I was a drunk young teenager on that couch at Maddie’s house.

See what I mean now? There’s always a story behind that special episode, and that was mine. This can apply to a variety of things too, whether it’s a favourite place or a favourite soft drink, but I’ve always had a particular interest in f.r.i.e.n.d.s episodes.

What’s your favourite episode and why?
